As a start, it is as important to involve all the disciplines that are contributing to your PBL module in the preparation of assessment materials as it is to engage them in defining the objectives.

This generally implies a group size that is sufficiently small to enable each group member to contribute.

PBL is a way of seeing the curriculum as being focused on key problems that arise in professional practice and which requires student activity - independently or in cooperative groups - to learn from the problems. Students work through the problems, under greater or lesser degrees of guidance from tutors, defining what they do not know and what they need to know in order to understand (not necessarily just to solve) the problem. The justification for this is firmly based in modem theories of learning which have found that knowledge is remembered and recalled more effectively if learning is based in the context in which it is going to be used in the future.
